The Semester Kickstart (formally Quarter Plus) provides an intensive academic opportunity for you to accelerate your academic studies and begin your college experience before the start of the fall semester.
This four-week, fast-paced academic program designed for incoming first-year students who want to get ahead and make the most of their transition to college life. Spend your summer diving into college, building momentum, and taking your first step toward success.
Tentative 2026 Program Dates: Tuesday, July 14 - Tuesday, August 11
(No Class on Monday, August 10 for move to fall housing)

Residential Program
Students who participate in the residential program will take two classes, move on to campus in July, connect with fellow Mustangs in the program, and start building your future—all while exploring beautiful San Luis Obispo.
Virtual Program
Students who participate in the virtual program will take COMS 101: Public Speaking virtually for 4 units, and start building your future at a Mustang.
Please note: Instructors will require students to have their cameras on during class sessions, and daily attendance along with a reliable internet connection is mandatory. Students will not live in a university residence hall during the program.
